It looks like during the year of 2012, our study abroad tours in Mexico might have some company. Travel blogs are forecasting that this year, Mexico will see a surge of visitors thanks to the Mayan region. Mexican officials have even predicted a 10 percent increase in tourism to the country. And why? We’ll, it’s all about this little calendar and the Mayans – and supposedly some end-of-the-world talk. The truth is that the Mayan calendar depicts a cycle. Some call the new cycle that will begin this year “the age of Aquarius” when peace will reign. This is why many metaphysicists, spiritual leaders, shamans say that the “end” of the Mayan calendar is simply a shift from one cycle to another-offering an opportunity for a deeper alignment with God.
